Fundraising Follow-Up
As we talked about at the parent meeting, a major pillar of our program (and the culture that we hope to build) is honesty/transparency. In striving to lead in a transparent way, I want to take a minute to talk about both our fundraising plan and the ultimate goal for this season.
Coming into this season, we knew that we needed to raise a significant amount of money for both facility/playing surface improvements and equipment/uniform upgrades. To make this happen, we planned to continue the fundraising plan that had previously been in place:
1. Ad Signs on OF fence
2. Hourathon
3. Discount Cards
Because of the efforts of some very dedicated parents within the last month, we were able to cut down some of our anticipated cost for field renovation. Due to this fact (and the fact that most everyone I spoke with shared their strong dislike of discount cards in the current form), our new plan was to only complete the Hourathon since we would have nearly enough money to have everything covered for this year.
Under the belief that this was entirely my call, I went so far as to tell a handful of our parents at the signing event on Monday that we were cancelling the card fundraiser so that we could get straight to the baseball season. Unfortunately, I learned in the last few days that in this current format, both Hourathon and discount cards were a package deal and that the 2023 Apollo cards had already been printed.
It is my hope that we can all make lemonade out of lemons in this situation. Since we are obligated here, it is my goal to make it worthwhile for our guys. They have been putting together a wishlist of big ticket items for use in practice and games, and we will do everything possible to get what we can off of that list.
In closing, I want to apologize to everyone who heard me say that we would not be doing the cards. I truly believed that these fundraisers were independent of each other and were not a package deal or I would not have said anything at all. I am hopeful that our plan to give directly back to the players will take enough sting out that we can knock this out quickly and put it behind us so that we can focus on the REAL task at hand. #GoEagles
